roadworks information: A47 Bascule Bridge – maintenance and barrier replacement

Dear customer
Important roadworks information
A47
Bascule Bridge – maintenance and barrier replacement
I
am writing to inform you that we plan to carry out maintenance work to the A47
Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft to ensure it continues to remain safe and
serviceable. The work will include maintenance around the locking pin
mechanisms on the bridge decks and the replacement of the bridge’s barriers.
We plan to complete this work
over approximately three weeks starting on Sunday 1 March 2026. We
will work between 8pm and 6am, Sunday to Friday only, weather
permitting.
A location map can be found
below.
Closures and diversions
While the
bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted through a well signed diversion
route.
We will also
provide a free hourly bus service to take pedestrians between either side of
the bridge via the diversion while the bridge is closed.
